Museum Day III : Museum of Modern Art Ft Worth

Tree and The Vortex,
Museum of Modern Art, FT. Worth

The favorite of the Museum Day for me, and I think for Alex and Buz, also was the Museum of Modern Art. In front of the museum is the Vortex, a towering metal sculpture that you can walk into. You can create all kinds of fun sounds/noises that reverberate through the structure using your feet, hands or voice and we tried them all!

Clatus, Jean, Sue and Alex inside the Vortex.

Looking up through the top of the Vortex.

There are a lot of water features around the museum that add to the appeal for me. In addition to the reflections I loved the patterns on the inside walls of the building that were formed by the sunlight bouncing off the water.

It was a bit windy outside the day we were there but I know on a calm day the tree sculpture outside would be beautiful with its perfect reflection.

It was wonderful fun to walk through a section of the building's corridors that wind their way in and out of the the water pool.

You never knew what would be waiting for you in the little room at the end of the corridor or what might be mounted on the other side of the display wall as we circled round it. You would turn a corner and find an interesting treasure.

Of course some of the public favorites were mine also. The cylindrical setting and lighting for Anselm Kiefer's Book with Wings is wonderful.....

....and Ladder for Booker T. Washington, with its illusion of being suspended in space could not help but bring a smile to my face.

After our visit to the art museums, we women visited the nearby Cowgirl Museum as Alex is an avid horsewoman. The men found a shady spot in the car and rested their feet while we learned about the women through the years who ranched and rode. Alex found an appaloosa to add to her vast collection of horse models. This one had been retired so it was quite the find for her.

Then we were off to Joe T Garcia's for fajitas. Yum. Some braved their famous margaritas to go with the great salsa and guacamole but I stuck with the Dos Equis; yes in that now familiar large glass that requires two hands to handle it!

After dinner we all went to the house for a game of Balderdash which was great for many laughs. If you have never played the game, it requires inventing definitions for words to fool your fellow game players into voting for your clever 'lie'. The key here is that you actually have to think. My brain was fried but I partnered with Clatus and we actually managed to to come up with a few winners. We were nicknamed "Clicky", a combination of Clatus and Vicki. We resorted to the unique approach of me writing one word down and Clatus finishing the definition. It resulted in successful definitions like 'Moroccan oven' that actually garnered a few votes. Of course, I cannot remember the word or its real definition because as I said my brain was fried.

It meant a lot to us to be able to play with Alex who adores the game. She did a great job though it was Sandy who was the winner for the evening. Thanks all for a fabulous day and evening!!!!!
